Scout Service Opportunity:
We have a volunteer opportunity for 7 scouts Sunday, September 30th at Urban Grace Baptist Church. As we have in the past, we will be assisting at their free breakfast. They have requested that we limit our numbers to 7 scouts and they will look forward to us coming every 4th Sunday of the month. If you are able to serve Sunday the 30th, please e-mail Rhonda Patrick or call her (253) 988-3313. We will take the first 7 boys that are able to come. There will be many other opportunities to serve here in the coming months, everyone will be able to serve that wants to. We will meet at 6:30 at Emanuel Lutheran Church and drive to Urban Grace. We will return between 9:30 and 9:45 to Emanuel. Bring the completed permission slip with you on Sunday morning. We need one parents/drivers as well. Please contact Rhonda Patrick via email at [email protected] or call her at (253) 988.3313. Our planned 50 mile bike trip is scheduled for July 21 and July 22. We have planned to leave the Church at 8:30 to drive to Yelm Washington. There we will ride the Yelm Chehalis trail to the Lacy Tenino Connection point. Where we will then head north on the trail into Lacy Washington. Eating lunch at Carl's JR then finish our ride north. Approximately 23 miles this day. We will return to the Church at 3:30-4:00pm. The trail is paved and not on a road where cars are traveling. We do cross railroad tracks and roads, but very safe and flat. HELMETS REQUIRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BRING WATER!!!!!!!!!! This is a non campout event. Sunday Meeting at 9:am we are going to do a local ride including 5 mile drive in Point Defiance Park, Tacoma narrows bridge, and other sites ending up at Mike Spuck's house for a BBQ and Pool Party around 1:30-2:00pm. Interested parties may do either day or both, but we really need 4 adults and 10 kids min to make this work for Saturday. Please sign up by Monday the 16th of July. Cost for Saturday is 5.00 dollars for transportation. Sunday is no cost Bring $10.00 for lunch on Saturday. You will be riding on the street with cars on this ride. If you are attending, we need all paperwork by Monday July 16th after the pre-Summer camp scout meeting. We are having a bike check on the 16th as well. This is important. Also if you do not have a helmet you will not be allowed to participate in either days ride. If we do not have at least 3 adults and 10 kids it will not work. Contact me on my e-mail for questions. Next Monday, July 9th all permission slips and camp costs are due. You can also miss the rush and pay online with your credit card on our website. I have attached a permission slip PDF to this email, or you can find one online here. Outing description described on the permission slip: We will be splitting into two groups, experienced and novice hikers. The experienced hikers will be hiking to Mildred Lakes. The novice hikers to Lower Lena Lake. Take a sack dinner to eat on the way. We will drive to the Lena Lake Campground, located in the Hamma Hamma Rec Area in the Olympic National Forest. Friday night we will camp at the campground, and rise early Saturday morning for the hike to the lakes. The Mildred Lakes hike is a challenging hike of 5.7 miles, last time it took me about 4.5 hrs to get there. Lower Lena Lake is one of my favorite short hikes (and one of the easiest hikes in the Olympics) at about 3 miles and moderate elevation gain. Once at our destination the boys will be allowed to explore the area the rest of Saturday. Up Sunday for a quick breakfast, camp tear down and church. Back to the vehicles by noon, lunch on the road, home around 3pm. All permission slips and any camp fees by July 9th. Pay online with your credit card through PayPal on our website.
